The Bloody Truth:
They almost got it!
A well produced and seemingly over the top monster flick, as expected, will
stir up a lot of excitement in the fan world and Jack Brooks Monster Slayer
brings a lot of horror hype along with its 85 minutes of monster bashing fun.
Unfortunately the bloody truth is the film only slightly delvers. Jack Brooks
Monster Slayer ends up a simple and predictable movie filled with cookie
cutter characters (Jack, being the most interesting but even he seems a little
thin at times.) and a generic story all to get us to the point of Jack going toe
to toe with the Dead Alive/ Deadite monsters.
This film is fun, full of good moments and bound to entertain. Yet, while Jack
Brooks Monster Slayer pulls heavily from movies such as Slither, The Evil
Dead and a list of horror to long to name, it never gets close to its
predecessors and ends up being a watered down version of a great movie.
Matt's Note:
I wanted to love this movie and while it's still good it was so close to being
great!
Practical effects, outrageous characters, even more outrageous monsters,
action and some good humor. So close.
