Back of the box:
Kinji Fukasaki's explosive drama takes place early in the new millennium,
with Japan on the verge of societal collapse. When even the schoolchildren
begin to abuse the system, the government introduces a strict new
punishment whereby a randomly chosen group of students are taken to a
desert island and forced to fight each other to the death. Based on
Koushun Takami's novel, the film stars famous Japanese auteur and actor
Takeshi "Beat" Kitano.
The Bloody Truth:
Battle Royale explores an experiment in human nature and does so in an
intense and entertaining way. The truth is this film is not quite what you
might think. Friendship, love, betrayal, fear, bravery and anger are just
some of the emotions splashed across the screen from start to finish.
Battle Royale is a great film surrounded by violence and gore. Fans of the
extreme might end up being bit disappointed in this film but everyone else
should find something to like.
