Back of the box:

With Earth's life source -- the sun -- dying out 50 years in the future, it
seems the planet's days may be numbered in this sci-fi thriller starring Cillian
Murphy and Michelle Yeoh. Humanity's only hope lies with a crew of
astronauts transporting a device that will revitalize the sun. But an accident,
a deadly error and a distress signal from a vessel that vanished years ago
leave the cosmonauts fighting for survival ... and for their sanity.
The Bloody Truth:

Our good old friend Dany Boyle takes us into space for one hell of a surreal
ride.  I was thoroughly blown away by the intense visual spectacle of
Sunshine.  The movie as a whole might be a bit much for some viewers just
looking for the next scream fest, but Science fiction fans who look for a lot in
their films will surly be please.

Sunshine is nothing ordinary and should not become a forgotten video store
relic.

The trailer for Sunshine made it look like an incredible Sci-Fi spectacle.  I was expecting the next Event Horizon.  Boy was I ever
mislead.  What the trailer should have been was the film’s star reading the following statement directly into the camera: “The Sun is
dying, solar winter is upon us, the earth will soon die unless I can stop it.  I’m Cillian Murphy and I approve this movie because it allows
me once again to show the world just how good looking I am!”

I bet that sounds harsh to many of you.  Sunshine had some impressive visual effects that I’m sure looked stunning on a big screen.  It
wasn’t horrible.  But after Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and 28 Days Later I guess I expected better from Danny Boyle.

The cast is too large (an easy way to ensure a pick em off one by one lackadaisical approach to story telling) and the camera work is so
disjointed that I had an extremely hard time following what was going on or where events were taking place at any given moment.

The story itself is not bad (if a bit predictable) and I’d recommend watching it sometime if you don’t mind a whole lot of Armageddon
mixed in with your Event Horizon as that is basically what the movie boiled down to.

I wish I had a nice flashy or clever ending for this review.  Something worthy at least of the special effects and shininess that Sunshine
brings to the screen; but much like the sun in the film in question, I fear this is about to fizzle out.
