Back of the box:
Beset with guilt for failing to prevent a serial killer's latest homicide,
small-town sheriff Jack Sheppard (Timothy V. Murphy) may get a chance at
redemption when a nude, blood-drenched teen (Rocky Marquette) turns up
at the station clutching a big knife. As Jack attempts to find the boy's
identity and potential victims, the lawman unwittingly sets himself on a
collision course with unimaginable horror in director Sheldon Wilson's
stylish indie.
The Bloody Truth:
Surprisingly effective, Shallow ground is a “from left field” minor success.
While it reeks of “direct to video” at nearly every turn the haunting images
and intriguing story is handled very well. Time is given to develop
moments of tension. It’s rare that a modern movie can feel so creepy. If
you can forgive the films shortcomings then you’re in for a treat.
