Back of the box:
Sean Connery's son Jason Connery directs this taut action thriller about an
elite group of soldiers (including Cuba Gooding Jr., Taryn Manning and
Jason London) sent to rescue a missing scientist (Ron Perlman) from an
underground lab, only to learn from a priest (Henry Rollins) that an ancient
evil has been released inside the facility. Ray Winstone co-stars as the
soldiers' seasoned former leader, who helps them figure out their next
move.
The Bloody Truth:
An all star cast bring us the most basic of B movie horror.
The Bloody truth about The Devil’s Tomb is that it offers up a fantastic
cast, yet poorly developed characters; good quality visuals and practical
effects, but with a story too complex for the story teller. With war time
flashbacks, hallucinations of guilt and grief and biblical speak of end times
it appears that The Devil’s Tomb aims much higher than it’s direct to video
means and somehow misses the mark over and over, and the
entertainment value of the films suffers for it.
Gore and sacrilege abound so I would not say scrap the film all together
just keep expectations appropriately low.
