Back of the box:
Stranded in a cabin in the woods, Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his girlfriend
accidentally invoke a spell that causes the Evil Dead to rise and kill! As a
lone man pitted against hordes of walking corpses, can Ash survive until
the safety of sunrise? Director Sam Raimi's whip-crack direction and
Campbell's comedic skills induce hair-raising fear and gales of laughter.
The Bloody Truth:
Bring on the Silly
With the success of the original evil dead Sam Rami was able to continue
the story and in a way almost remake it. It’s clear from the start that the
first film only touched upon the extreme and slapstick style humor that
would come to dominate this picture and the following Army of Darkness.
For some The Evil Dead II is a continued vision of perfection as Bruce
Campbell becomes the Ash horror fans know and love and Sam Rami fully
realizes his wild and completely original vision. For others The Evil Dead II
is more silly than horror and the drastic reduction in gore can be somewhat
of a letdown. Back then Rami was shooting for a larger audience appeal,
yet today The Evil Dead II might turn some new or mild horror fans away.
Still a great and entertaining watch for any late night horror fest.
