Back of the box:
Tortured by frightening dreams at night and the ghost of a young boy
during the day, young Casey (Odette Yustman) turns to a spiritual adviser
named Rabbi Sendak (Gary Oldman) for help. Together, the two uncover
and try to stop a powerful family curse dating back to the Nazi era. David S.
Goyer writes and directs this supernatural thriller that also stars Cam
Gigandet, Meagan Good and Jane Alexander.
The Bloody Truth:
The Unborn bares two distinct stamps, Michal Bay’s name and a PG13
rating. These two badges of “not so much honor” speak volumes to
horror fans and nearly paint a perfect picture of the modern horror film.
These marks fully overwhelm such elements as Gary Oldman and David
S. Goyer, and can act as a warning or an invitation.
The Bloody Truth is simple, The Unborn is a wide audience scare factory
that the young and uninformed may take some pleasure in. The lack of
any character development what so ever and a weak and plotless story
will surely turn away more discerning horror fans. The film does have a
few “moments” but unfortunately they were nearly all ruined by a very
“get your butt in the theater” add campaign.
The Unborn is what we thought it would be. Let’s just pray to all that is
good and great in this world that the new Friday the 13th re-envisioning
does not bare the PG-13 badge, because it already has the Michal Bay
one.
