Back of the box:
While on assignment, an L.A. news reporter (Jennifer Carpenter) and her
cameraman (Steve Harris) find themselves trapped in a quarantined
apartment complex along with a vicious unknown killer. With all forms of
communications cut, the news crew keeps the cameras rolling as they
search for a way out. The building is locked down, a killer is on the loose,
and panic sets in as those trapped inside make a desperate attempt to
escape with their lives.
The Bloody Truth:
Two movies exist here and they are created solely by you the viewer.
Quarantine is a successful remake of a fist person type horror
experience. They take a generous amount of time to introduce the main
characters and create a feeling of camaraderie and strong realism. They
do this specifically to grab a hold of you and take you along for a hell of a
journey that wraps up with a 20 minute long “house of horrors” ride with
you in the front seat.
I say this is two movies for simply this reason - turn off the lights, turn on
the surround sound and let your self escape into this film as if it was you
behind that camera. If you do this you’re in for one of the most disturbing
and frightening film to hit major US screens in years!
If you can’t deal with the first person camera work, or you like to sit back,
talk and have dinner with the lights on during your horror, chances are
you might find the film silly and forced or possibly not even be able to
finish it due to the nauseating camera work.
These two unique experiences explain why so many people were unhappy
with the film. Here at DRR we give every movie a fighting chance. This
film was viewed in full theater style lights down surround sound on and no
interruptions. In this case it was scary as all hell! Fantastic effects and
stunts throughout, violent, well acted and loaded with jump scares and a
generous amount of gore. A win in my book.
