Back of the box:

Based on a story by H.P. Lovecraft, this campy send-up follows an
egotistical medical student (Jeffrey Combs) who develops a serum that
revives the dead. Together with his girlfriend and his obdurate roommate,
Combs reanimates a corpse but doesn't factor in certain complications that
arise. Filled with equal parts laughter and gore, Re-Animator spawned a
similarly outlandish sequel.
The Bloody Truth:

Headless corpses, dead cats and a small security force of zombies all
color the legendary Re-Animator!

Just incase you’ve never managed to experience this Lovecraftian tale of
science and the macabre then I will keep it simple.

The bloody truth is Start Gordon put together an oddly quirky, sick and
demented tale of a young scientist mad with is search for glory and the
innocent and greedy people that surround him.  Re-Animator will likely be
enjoyed most by the hardcore horror fans who can stomach the gore and
laugh at the dark comedy.

The film ages well and its underground popularity helped launch many
sequels.  If you’re a zombie fan, see it! If you’re a H.P. Lovecraft fan see
it!  If you love Evil Dead, well then I’m sure you’ve already seen it!

Re-Animator is a fantastic and fun film yet in no way designed for the fait
of heart.
